Evaluation

What kind of media institution might distribute your media project and why?

After researching Psycho (1960) and Fridaay the 13th (1980), which are both thriller movies that we have previously used for planning and research, we found that they had both been distributed by Paramount Pictures in some way. (Psycho from 1960-1968, and Friday the 13th in North America). As our film is also a thriller with similar aspects from these two movies, such as the narrative and lighting, we feel that 'The Unknown' could also possibly be distributed by Paramount Pictures in terms of genre and narrative. As well as distributing Psycho and Friday the 1th, Paramount Pictures also distributed Double Jeopardy (1999)- another psychological thriller. The fact that Paramount Pictures has distributed so many thrillers from so many different eras,(60's, 80's and late 90's) shows that they are used to doing so. We felt that as our film would probably be released as an art-house or independant movie, we should research whether Working Title movies could distribute it. We found that State of Play (2009) was a Working Title movie which is also a thriller, however it was distributed by Universal Pictures making it more Americanized and commercial (hence the American actors). Therefore Working Title nay not be the best to distribute our film. We have therefore concluded that distributing a British, independant thriller may be a new or rare concept.
